First of all, you may have noticed that every message in issues #73 and #74
concluded with a personal signature from Rabbi M Weinberg. Our editor,
Rabbi Ari Lobel, is in Israel, where he has been since before the New Year.
Rabbi Lobel is using the computer of his father-in-law Rabbi Weinberg, and
did not realize that a signature file was pre-programmed into his email.
Rabbi Weinberg obviously did not write those messages, as you most probably
realized immediately. This error has been corrected.
Second, our mail system overloaded - possibly because a large number of
Torah-Forum messages arrived simultaneously from Israel. Normally our
editors connect directly to our server to send mail, but from Israel it is
more efficient to allow servers there to relay the email overseas. In any
case, we suspect that the mail backed up in Israel for a brief period, and
a full digest's worth of messages were dumped into the Torah-Forum queue at
once. The system overloaded, and after issue #73 was produced, issue #74
emerged with a single message in the digest. We've taken steps to prevent
this from occurring again.
Third, you more recently received a blank message from
owner-torah-forum-digest. We believe that this was also related, simply
because we've never seen this error before, and as mentioned this situation
has been corrected. The message you received was supposed to contain
approximately 15 messages bundled as issue #75. We were able to reset the
issue number, but by then several other messages were queued - you should
have received issue #75 with some newer messages. The remainder of this
digest will contain the messages which you did not receive previously.
Our apologies for the technical difficulties, which we believe are now fixed.
Yours,
Project Genesis Staff
