Rashi (quoting the Midrash) says that Hevel (Abel) chose to raise sheep
in order to separate himself from agricultural activities since the
ground had just been cursed as part of Adam's punishment from eating from
the tree. Even if Man couldn't eat the sheep, he could benefit from its
wool and its milk.
