"The Way of G-d"

Part 2: “Divine Providence”, Chapter 2: “Mankind in this world”

Paragraph 6

Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzattos The Way of G-d

as taught by Rabbi Yaakov Feldman

Though we prefer not to think as much, there are utterly evil and wrongful people in the world. Their beings are so suffused with the sort of opaque, murky, noisome, and unctuous blemish spoken of as a consequence of all the wrong they've done that they'll *never* draw close to G-d.

Yet they'd certainly done *some* good in their lives, though. For everything we do in this world is an awkward and oftentimes off-putting blend of right and wrong, good and bad. And justice would demand that they be rewarded for the good they'd done, the same way it would demand that they suffer the consequences of all their wrongdoing. Just as justice would demand that everything we do be duly noted, and that the *good within the bad* we do be rewarded much the way the *bad within the good* be recompensed.

Yet none of the good the sort of utterly evil people we're speaking about had done was qualitatively or quantitatively good enough to earn them a place in the World to Come.

The few good things they've done *are* indeed rewarded after all, though. But only in their lifetimes, and not in either the Soul Realm or The World to Come.

But being the sort of people they are, worldly reward seems glorious to them. The truth is, though, that no worldly reward could ever match the true and eternal bliss the soul revels in.

This series is dedicated to the memory of Yitzchak Hehrsh ben Daniel, and Sarah Rivka bas Yaakov Dovid.
