Mitzvos Relating to our Fellow Man
26: Returning a Security Daily
"When you give your friend a loan of any amount... return his security
to him..." (Devarim 24:10-13)
If an item was accepted as security for a loan, it has to be returned
regularly, whenever the borrower may need it (Rambam, Hilchos Malveh
3:5). For example, if the security is a pillow, it should be returned
every evening.
We learn from this mitzvah how sensitive we need to be to a person's
feelings and needs.
