Chapter 59: 4-6
Shehecheyonu and Hatov V'hameitiv

4. A person should always accustom himself to say: Whatever G-d does is for the good.

5. A person whose wife gave birth to a son should recite a blessing hatov v'hameitiv. His wife should recite the same blessing. If his wife dies in childbirth, [he should recite dayan ho'emes on her death and afterwards,] shehecheyonu [on his son's birth. In this insatance] the benefit is not shared with another person. Similarly, if the child's father dies before the birth, the mother recites shehecheyonu [when she gives birth].

6. Upon hearing of the death of one's father, another relative, or even a person who is not one's relative, but who is an upright person - how much more so, of a Torah Sage - whose passing causes one grief, one should recite the blessing: Boruch Attoh A-d-o-n-o-i E-l-o-h-e-i-n-u Melech ho'olom dayan ho'emes.

Upon hearing of the death of other people whose passing does not cause one that much grief, one should recite Boruch dayan ho'emes, not mentioning G-d's name or His Kingship.

If one's father left money as an inheritance, one should also recite the blessing shehecheyonu. If one has other brothers with whom to divide the inheritance, he should recite hatov v'hameitiv rather then shehecheyonu.
